Purpose

For the past year, I've been working on a blog that traces the history of number theory from the perspective of Fermat's Last Theorem.

As an amateur, it has been fun and very rewarding to review the most important proofs in the history of number theory and present them in a roughly historical order.

In the course of doing this, I have become interested in trying my hand at some basic results. Since I am not a mathematician by training or by profession, there is little doubt that I will make mistakes.

It is my hope that my efforts will be interesting to other amateurs. Since I am planning to take on some heavy problems, I am doubtful that my proposed proofs will hold up. Still, I cannot resist.

Please feel free to point out a flaw or to comment on how the proof can be improved.

Cheers,

-Larry
